Frozen Fruit
Frozen fruit production has exploded in recent years as consumers came to appreciate nearly 100% product utilization compared to fresh fruit's average of only 50% due to spoilage. The frozen fruit market now includes single-ingredient products and multiple-ingredient products such as berry blends, melon blends, and peach and berry blends. With this expansion one of the technologies from frozen vegetables—mix and blend systems—is beginning to be employed in this industry segment. Because much of the fruit to be cleaned and frozen arrives at the plant in hand totes or trays, Commercial Manufacturing developed a tray dumper to allow fast and metered flow into the plant while being gentle on the fragile fruit.
